SCSU Women's Basketball Tops Adelphi, 67-54

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball defeated Adelphi, 67-54, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House in New Haven, Conn. The Owls improved to 15-9 overall and 10-7 in the NE10, and now have five wins in their last five games. Southern also improved to 11-2 at home for the year.

Katie Williams (Dublin, Ireland) led Southern with 18 points and five rebounds, with three assists, in 25 minutes. Zoe Amalbert (Nanuet) scored 17 points, with 13 coming in the second half, with six rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Isabella Santoro (Durham, Conn.) totaled 13 points and eight rebounds while Renza Milner (Carlsbad, Calif.) totaled eight points and eight rebounds, with four assists, off the bench.

The first quarter saw Southern use a pair of runs to build a nine-point lead, 21-12, through the first 10 minutes of play. The Owls offense was largely balanced as Amalbert, Santoro and Williams all led Southern with six points each. The second quarter saw both teams play even, 9-9, and head to halftime with Southern leading, 30-21. Williamson finished with 10 points in the first half, while Santoro had nine points and six rebounds, with four coming on the offensive end.

The Owls opened the third quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 17-point lead, 40-27, with Williamson scoring four more to lead Southern. The Owls hit on their first five shots of the quarter and were 9-for-15 from the floor to head to the fourth quarter with a 50-36 lead.

Amalbert started the game slow, hitting on just three of her first 10 shots. Down the stretch, Amalbert poured in 13 points, hitting on 4-of-5 from the floor in the second half.

Southern Connecticut returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15 when it hosts Franklin Pierce for a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House at 5:30 p.m.
