SCSU Women's Basketball Defeats Saint Rose, 60-54

ALBANY, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball picked up a 60-54 win in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Saint Rose in Albany, N.Y. With the win, the Owls improved to 14-8 overall and 9-7 in the NE10 while Saint Rose dropped to 9-12 overall and 6-10 in conference play.

Isabella Santoro (Durham, Conn.) led a balanced offensive attack for the Owls with a team-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor, while also converting on 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Santoro also finished with a team-high three steals. In addition to Santoro, Southern featured four Owls in double figures as Katie Williamson (Dublin, Ireland) finished with 14 points, six rebounds, a pair f blocks and three steals. Zoe Amalbert (Nanuet, N.Y.) had 12 points, six assists and five boards while Delaney Connors (West Hartford, Conn.) tallied 10 points and six rebounds in the Owls' win.

Southern trailed through the first and second quarters as the Golden Knights held a three-point lead after the first quarter, 15-12, and also led 32-28 heading into the break. Saint Rose used a 9-2 run to take a 24-16 lead to start the second quarter. The Owls managed to clamp down, using a 9-4 answer to pull within three pints, 28-25, with two minutes to go in the first half. After the Golden Knights pushed their lead back to seven points, Santoro scored four points in the final 29 seconds of the half to keep the Owls within striking distance.

The Golden Knights also led for most of the third quarter as well as they controlled the scoreboard before Southern grabbed its first lead of the game, 43-42, with 1:08 to go in the third quarter. Santoro (7 pts) and Connors (6 pts.) combined to outscored Saint Rose in the period, while Amalbert's only points of the quarter, a three-pointer in the final minute, gave the Owls the lead.

In the fourth, Saint Rose used an 8-4 run to open the quarter and regain the lead with 3:57 to play, 51-50. The Owls would then go 7-for-7 from the free throw line in the closing minutes, while Amalbert added a jumper, while allowing just a single bucket to the Golden Knights to hold on for the win.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 when it hosts Adelphi at James Moore Field House at 1:30 p.m.
