NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut standout Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) broke four records in the Owls' 21-11 win against Franklin Pierce in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. In the Owls' win, Takacs became SCSU's all-time assists leader, while also breaking the single-game and single-season records for assists and the single-game record for points. With the win, Southern improved to 7-3 on the year and 3-3 in the NE10 while Franklin Pierce dropped to 1-8 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

SCSU Women's Lacrosse Highlights vs. Franklin Pierce (Apr. 1, 2023)

Takacs entered the game needing one assist to tie Carolyn Keal's record of 55, which she found in the first quarter. She had two assists in the quarter to break the record before passing out four more. Her six assists against the Ravens stand as the most in a single game in Southern history, breaking her previous record of five against Post in 2020. In that game, she tied the mark set by Kennedy Sherman against Alderson Broaddus in 2015.

Takacs' career-best five goals to go along with her six assists gave her 11 points, breaking the 16-year-old single-game record of 10 set by Allison Kownacki against AIC in 2007. For the year, she has 22 goals and 22 assists, which also stands as the most assists in a single-season. Her 148 career points also sit fifth, all-time, behind teammate Karlie Rowe's 149.
In addition to Takac's landmark game, Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.) recorded 14 draw controls, tying the program's single-game record held by Steph Seymour in 2020 and Grace Martha in 2007.

Southern used a 7-2 edge in the first quarter to take control of the game early, but Franklin Pierce outscored Southern, 6-5 in the second and 3-2 in the third quarters, to cut the Owls' lead to 14-11 heading into the final frame. It was a 7-0 fourth quarter by the Owls that sealed the win.

In the first, Takacs scored twice and set up two more goals, while Molly Kelly (Colchester, Conn.) and Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) both found the back of the net twice in the first 15 minutes, with Kirsten McIntire (Nashua, N.H.) also adding a goal, as the Owls held a five-goal lead, 7-2. The second quarter saw Franklin Pierce outscore Southern, 5-1, to pull within a goal, 8-7, with just under four minutes to go in the half.

Southern used a 4-1 run, with goals from Alexandra Ruel (Ivoryton, Conn.), Shaw, Rowe and Takacs to head into the break with a 12-8 lead. Coming out of the half, Ruel and Morgan Reilly (Stratford, Conn.) made it 14-8, but Franklin Pierce scored three unanswered goals to cut Southern's lead in half, with Hayley Hermsdorf scoring for the Ravens as time expired.

It would be Franklin Pierce's last goal of the game as the Owls outscored the Ravens, 7-0, down the stretch. Savannah Feinberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.) and Takacs scored twice while Reilly, McIntire and Rowe also scored. In the end, Rowe finished with five goals and an assist for six points, to move into third place all-time with 116 for her career. Ruel, Feinberg, Reilly, Kelly and McIntire all had two goals each. Hannah Holmes (Colchester, Conn.) led the Owls with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. In goal, Caelan Connors had six saves in the Owls' win.

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 4 when it hosts Adelphi for a Northeast 10 Conference game at 4 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
