SCSU Softball Splits NE10 Doubleheader At Southern New Hampshire

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern Connecticut softball split its final regular season series of the year with a 2-1 win at Southern New Hampshire before SNHU came back to defeat the Owls, 4-1, in the nightcap. Southern completes the season with a record of 14-28 overall and 8-16 in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Jessica Perucki picked up the win in the first game after holding Southern New Hampshire to one run on two hits over seven innings while striking out eight. She finishes the year with 168 strikeouts for the second-most in a single season in program history. She also brings her career total to 372, which is good for third all-time as well.

In the first game, the Owls scored two runs in the 1st inning and then played ahead the rest of the way. In the second, Paige Delier reached on an error, but was retired on Nadia Cestari's ground ball to third. After Faith Barbieri sacrificed Cestari to second, Dominique DeLutri doubled to right field to score Cestari with the game's first run. Angela Barresi then reached on a fielding error by SNHU's second baseman that allowed DeLutri to score with the Owls second run.

After giving up a run in the 2nd inning, Perucki only allowed two batters to reach base for the rest of the day while also retiring the last 11 batters of the game.

In the second game, SNHU manufactured a run to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning. In the top of the 4th, Jacqueline Dumont was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Natalie Scotto then pinch ran for Dumont and was sacrificed over by Delier. After Cestari singled to right field to move Scotto to third, Ashley Saab's sacrifice fly ball to right field scored Scott to tie the game. SNHU scored three in the bottom half of the inning to take a 4-1 lead before hanging on for the win.

Emma Gorham took the loss on the mound after giving up four runs on eight hits over four innings. Ashley Lewis came on in relief in the fifth and pitched two perfect innings.
