SCSU Baseball Splits NE10 Doubleheader Against Pace

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut baseball split the final two games of its four-game Northeast-10 Conference series against Pace with a win in the second game, 10-3, after the Setters won the first game of the day, 5-2. The Owls go to 12-4 in the NE10 and 29-11 overall while Pace is 26-17 overall and 6-10 in NE10 play.  

Southern responded in the second half of the doubleheader against Pace with 10 runs on 10 hits including three home runs. Connor Goggin blasted a pair of solo shots as part of a 3-for-4 day that included two RBI and three runs scored. Billy Sullivan was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI with two runs scored while Colin Mason was 2-for-5 with a RBI and run scored.

On the mound, Tommy Benincaso improved to 6-0 after another quality start before handing the ball to Peter Phillips, who converted his second save of the season. Benincaso struck out a season-high nine batters while holding Pace to three runs on six hits. Phillips entered the game in the seventh inning and held Pace hitless over three innings while striking out two.

Southern is back in action this weekend when it travels to Garden City, N.Y. to take on Adelphi in its final regular-season series of the year.
