SCSU Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Bentley, 146-133

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – SCSU Women's Swimming rolled to a 146-133 win against Northeast-10 Conference foe Bentley in a dual meet at Hutchinson Natatorium. The Owls clinched the meet with four events to go, which they swam exhibition.
 
The Owls opened the meet with a win in the 200 Medley Relay as Hailey Nyquist, Allyson Quitos, Justice Glasgow and Kali Dominguez all combined for the win. Nyquist also won the 100 Back, Quitos won the 200 Breaststroke and Glasgow won the 100 Butterfly. In addition,
 
Molly Kennedy won the 50 and 100 Freestyle events and also finished second in the 200 Free. Brooke Keeney won that event while Jasmine Uricchio captured the 1000 Freestyle. Paola Castillo won the 200 Butterfly and finished second in the 500 Free while Abby Lyons won the 200 Backstroke.


 
200 Yard Medley Relay
Southern Connecticut's "A" relay team comprised of Hailey Nyquist, Allyson Quitos, Justice Glasgow and Kali Dominguez took the 1,000 Meter Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:50.73 while its "B" team of Abby Lyons, Emma St. Hilaire, Paola Castillo and Ella Marzec finished third at 1:55.68.
 
1000 Yard Freestyle
Jasmine Uricchio won the 1,000 Free event with a time of 10:38.48, edging Bentley's top finisher by five seconds. Gracie Marsh finished third with a time of 11:21.00 while Natalie Weier finished fourth at 11:34.63.
 
200 Yard Freestyle
Brooke Keeney won the 200 Freestyle event with a time of 1:59.15 followed by Molly Kennedy in second place at 2:00.22. Justice Glasgow finished fourth at 2:06.06.
 
100 Yard Backstroke
The Owls claimed the top three spots in the 100 Backstroke, led by Hailey Nyquist with a time of 59.07 while Abby Lyons finished second at 1:02.52 and Ella Marzec touched at 1:03.01 for third place.

100 Yard Breaststroke
Bentley took the top two spots in the 100 Breaststroke, but Lindsay McCawley finished third at 1:11.43 followed by Abbey Piech in fourth at 1:13.89.
 
200 Yard Butterfly
Paola Castillo won the 200 Fly with a time of 2:12.42 while Julia Pitchell was third at 2:15.92.
 
50 Yard Freestyle
Molly Kennedy picked up a win in the 50 Free with a time of 25.03 while Arianna Arturi finished third at 25.56. Kali Dominiguez placed fourth with a time of 26.08.
 
100 Yard Freestyle
Coming out of the diving break, Kennedy won for the second time in as many races with a time of 54.79 in the 100 Free. Uricchio was third at 56.27.
 
200 Yard Backstroke
Southern took the top four spots in the 50 Back. Abby Lyons led Southern in the 200 Back with a time of 2:11.66 while Ella Marzec was second at 2:16.61. Pitchell was third at 2:19.13 followed by Sara Roney at 2:19.18.
 
200 Yard Breaststroke
Allyson Quitos won the 200 Breaststroke event with a time of 2:30.29 followed by Emma St. Hilaire in second at 2:31.47.
 
500 Yard Freestyle
Castillo finished second in the 500 Free with a time of 5:22.69 while McCawley was third at 5:26.86. Castillo and McCawley's finish in the 500 Free clinched the meet against Bentley as the Owls competed as exhibition for the final four events.
 
1 Meter Diving
Nicholle Denault finished second with a score of 211.25 in the 1 Meter Event.
 
100 Yard Butterfly
Justice Glasgow took the 100 Butterfly with a time of 57.33.
 
3 Meter Diving
Denault posted an exhibition score of 201.25.
 
200 Yard Individual Medley
Brooke Keeney finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.88.
 
400 Yard Freestyle Relay
The Owls' "B" Relay of Uricchio, Dominguez, Roney and Nyquist posted a time of 3:48.47, which would have been good for second place. The "A" Relay of Glasgow, Quitos, Pitchell and Keeney posted a time of 3:49.24.
 
Southern is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 14 when it hosts Saint Rose, with Senior Day scheduled for the start of the event to honor Gracie Marsh and Nicholle Denault.
