SCSU Women's Basketball Falls To Bentley

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball lost to nationally-ranked No. 7 Bentley, 66-47, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the loss, Southern dropped to 8-8 overall and 5-5 in the NE10 while Bentley improved to 14-2 overall and 9-1 in conference play.

Katie Williamson led the Owls with 12 points while she also added five rebounds and two blocks. Hope Fox totaled nine points while Julianna Bonilla had eight points and two steals. Makenzie Helms came off the bench to score six points and also led Southern with three assists to go with four rebounds.



Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in the matchup as the Falcons knocked down 11-of-20 from long range to the Owls' three three-pointers in the matchup. A 23-12 lead after the first quarter propelled Bentley, while the Owls played close over the remainder of the game.

Bentley outscored the Owls, 10-8, in the second quarter with Williamson scoring half of the Owls' points. The Falcons also held an 18-14 edge in the third quarter, with five different Owls scoring in the frame as Williams and Helms each totaled four points. In the fourth, Hope Fox totaled five points down the stretch as the Owls outscored Bentley, 10-6, over the final three minutes of the game.

Southern returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 when it hosts Franklin Pierce for a NE10 showdown at James Moore Field House at 1:30 p.m.
