SCSU Women's Basketball Ranked Second in NE10 Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW HAVEN, CONN-- Southern Connecticut women's basketball was ranked second in the 2026-2027 Northeast 10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the NE10 conference on Tuesday, October 21st. They received 69 points and one first place vote, behind Bentley with 81 points and  nine first place votes.

There will be plenty of new faces for the Owls this season, with only five returning players. Taeya Steinauer returns for year two with the Owls after transferring from Purdue Fort Wayne. The junior guard ranked third on the Owls in points per game (11.2), second in steals per game (2) and tied for first in blocks per game (.7).

The Owls also return Jaycee Merizalde, Lovie D'Onofrio and Gianna Donnarummo who played valuable roles off the bench last season. Jada Williams looks to make her return to the court after an injury riddled season where she played nine games. In those nine games, Williams had five double-digit point outings and one double-double.

The Owls will feature plenty of new faces, as eight new players join the team. Out of the eight, four are freshman and four are transfer acquisitions. Addison Sulikowski, a junior forward, joins the Owls after transferring from Division I University of New Haven where she averaged 9.2 points per game.

Along with Sulikowski, senior forward Jayla Tyler joins the team from Saint Michael's College. Last season, Tyler averaged 13.1 points per game and 7.2 rebound per contest, which ranked sixth in the NE10.

Southern Connecticut opens their season on Saturday Nov. 14 when they face Georgian Court in a non-conference match up at James Moore Field House at 1 PM. The Owls then play Mercy University the following day on Nov. 15 at 1 PM.
