SCSU Men's Basketball Defeats Saint Anselm, 86-75, For Seventh-Straight Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's basketball defeated Saint Anselm, 86-75, for the Owls' seventh-straight win in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the win, the Owls improved to 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference while Saint Anselm dropped to 4-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Kazell Stewart led Southern with 19 points while also grabbing six rebounds and Josh McGettigan had 17 points and eight rebounds in the win. Marty Silvera finished with 13 points and nine assists while Christian Joe had 11 points and three steals in 15 minutes off the bench. Sean James broke out with 16 points and five rebounds while he knocked down a team-leading 4-of-8 from three-point range. 

A battle from the start, Southern and Saint Anselm exchanged nine leads over the game's first 20 minutes. With 13 minutes to play in the first half, Saint Anselm held an 18-15 lead before Southern outscored Saint A's, 9-5, over the game's next five minutes with McGettigan netting six points.  McGettigan led the Owls with nine points in the first half while Sean James had eight as the Owls took a 33-27 lead into the half.

With 13 minutes to play, Saint Anselm pulled to within a basket, 45-43. Southern then outscored Saint Anselm, 21-11, over the next 6:44 of the half with Stewart's 10 points standing as the difference. The Owls had five steals in the stretch, with Christian Joe had three steals and six points in the run.

Southern is back in action with on Saturday, Jan. 6 when it hosts first-place Saint Michael's at 3:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House.
