SCSU Women's Basketball Defeats Georgian Court, 105-33

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball opened the 2024-25 with a 105-33 victory against Georgian Court at James Moore Field House. Senior Katie Williamson's 25 points led five Owls in double digits in the 72-point win- the largest in program history.



In addition to the Owls' 72-point victory, GCU's 33 points were the second-fewest scored against the Owls since 2000, besting Dominican's 32 points scored on Dec. 30, 2011. Southern's 59 points at halftime tied the program record set against Felician on Dec. 3, 2007 for most points in one half of play. In addition, the Owls' 43 points in the second quarter were also the most in a single quarter in program history.

In addition to Williamsons' game-high 25 points, the Owls' graduate student also added eight rebounds and two blocks. Delaney Haines totaled 20 points with four assists, two blocks and two steals while Jillian Martin had 13 points, a career-best six steals as well as four rebounds and three assists. Hope Fox and Rheyna Steinauer both totaled 10 points each, with Fox adding four assists and four steals and Steinauer grabbing six rebounds while totaling four assists and four steals. All 13 players on the Owls' roster scored a point in the win.

Scoreless for the first two minutes of the game, Georgian Court scored the game's first points to take its only lead of the afternoon, 2-0. From there, Southern went on a 36-0 run before the Lions scored four minutes into the second quarter. Leading 36-4, the Owls used a 23-8 advantage to heading into the break with a 47-point lead, 59-12.

The Owls came out blazing again in the second half as they outscored Georgian Court, 32-13, in the third frame. With the game in hand, Southern coasted through the fourth while outscoring the Lions, 14-8.

Southern shot 48.6% (34-70) from the floor including 43.5% (10-23) from three-point range and converted on 75% of their shots from the free throw line (27-36). The Owls also received 27 points from their bench and converted 45 points off of GCU's 38 turnovers. Newcomer Lyzi Litwinko, a transfer from NJIT, had eight points in 15 minutes while Ally Sentence totaled four points, two steals and six rebounds.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Nov. 10 when it faces Mercy at 3:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House.
