COLCHESTER, Vt. - Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball lost to Daemen, 84-65, in a non-conference match up at the Best Western Windjammer Doc Jacobs Classic hosted by Saint Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.
Isaac Hester led the Owls with 21 points after converting on 5-of-8 from three-point range. Albert Vargas had 20 points for the Owls after hitting on 4-of-7 from long range. Christian McClease had seven points and eight rebounds.
Both teams played back-and-forth for the first 10 minutes of the game before a Vargas three-pointer pulled the Owls within three, 20-17, with 9:02 in the half. A Daemen 11-0 gave the Owls' foe a 31-17 lead. The Owls match Daemen down the stretch, 12-12, to head into the break trailing, 43-29.
The second half Southern work its way to within seven points, 52-45, with 12 minutes to play. Another big run from Daemen saw the Wildcats take a 72-48 lead with eight minutes to play. Southern tried to fight its way back, outscoring Daemen, 17-12, but the Wildcats were able to secure the win.
Southern is back in action when it faces Mercy on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. in Colchester, Vt.
