SCSU Women's Basketball Falls To Bentley, 78-59

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball lost to nationally-ranked No. 5 Bentley, 78-59, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the loss, the Owls dropped to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the NE10 while Bentley improved to 9-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Delaney Haines led the Owls with 17 points and two steals while Rheyna Steinauer had 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds and four assists. Katie Williamson finished with 12 points, with two blocks, while Hope Fox totaled six points, three rebounds and three assists.



The Falcons benefited from 57.4% shooting from the floor including a 10-for-18 (55.6%) from three-point range. Bentley used a 10-for-14 first quarter to take a 24-13 lead before going its lead to 45-28 at halftime. Southern, meanwhile, shot just 3-for-19 from the floor.

With Bentley leading by 18 after the third quarter, 59-41, Southern outscored Bentley, 17-12, over the first six minutes of the final quarter to cut the Falcons' lead to 71-58. Haines (7) and Williamson (5) combined for 12 points in the run, but Bentley scored the final seven points of the game to seal the victory.

The Owls will look to get back on track when they travel to Caldwell on Saturday, Dec. 14 for a 3 p.m. tipoff. Southern will then close the semester at home against Dominican on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m. and Molloy on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 1:30 p.m.
