SCSU Women's Basketball Defeats Saint Anselm, 65-48; Lynch Wins 200th Career Game

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball head coach Kate Lynch won the 200th game of her career as the Owls defeated Saint Anselm, 65-48, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup in Manchester, N.H. With the win, the Owls improved to 13-10 overall and 10-7 in NE10 play while Saint Anselm dropped to 9-14 overall and 6-11 in conference play. It was also Southern's second-straight win and third win in its last three games.

The Owls spread it around as four different players finished in double figures. Rheyna Steinauer led the way for the Owls with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the second double-double of her career. Hope Fox had 12 points and nine rebounds as well as three assists while Makenzie Helms had 11 points, four rebounds and two steals. Katie Williamson totaled 10 points with five boards and two steals while Julianna Bonilla finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists.

Southern led from the start and took an 8-4 lead in the game's first five minutes off a pair of three-pointers from Bonilla, before the two teams played even over the next five minutes to give the Owls a 12-8 lead after the first quarter. Saint A's answered to start the second quarter but a 14-2 run to end the first half gave Southern a 26-14 lead at the break.

The Owls' opened the third quarter on an 8-3 run to take a 17-point lead, 34-17, with 6:11 to play in the third. Four-straight free throws by Steinauer and Fox gave the Owls a 20-point lead, 40-20, before Fox gave the Owls their biggest lead of the half, 42-21, with 2:25 to go. Leading by 20 to start the fourth, the Owls never trailed by less than double figures over the final 10 minutes as they cruised to the conference win.

For Lynch, 119 of her 200 career wins have come at Southern Connecticut, while the remainder came at previous stops at Molloy and the Community College of Rhode Island. Lynch is in her eighth season as the Owls' head coach

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 13 when it hosts New Haven in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House at 5:30 p.m.
