SCSU Womens' Soccer Defeats Post, 6-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's soccer cruised to a 6-1 win against Post in a non-conference matchup at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-2-1 overall while Post dropped to 0-5 on the season.

The Owls did all their scoring in the first half as they found the back of the goal five times, with an own goal by Post, to give them a 6-0 lead through the first 45. Five different Owls scored in the first frame, led by a goal and assist, each, from Alexie Rosado and Shi Reeves. Leading goal scorer Sydney Myers added to her tally with the fourth of the season while Caileigh Driscoll and Nicky Deslauriers both scored in the win. For Rosado, she also picked up her first points of the season after entering the season as the Owls' leading active scorer with four goals and seven assists for 15 points in three season.
Victoria Vera and Angela Filosa also picked up their first points of the season with assists on Reeves goal while Emma Noheimer also had an assist in the win. In goal, Abby Aughe stopped two of Post's three shots on goal.

Nicky Deslauriers put the Owls on the board just under 13 minutes into the game. Olivia Jones broke up a clearing attempt by the Eagles at midfield and tipped the ball over to Emma Noheimer. Noheimer then one-touched a pass to Rosado who turned and sent a pass to Deslauriers streaking across the box who took a dribble and blasted a shot to the opposite post. Rosado scored four minutes later when Reeves sent a ball in off a free kick from the sideline in front of Post's bench.

Myers scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season after another big play from Rosado. Myers took the throw-in for Southern, sending the ball to Rosado into the corner to the right of the Eagles' goal. Rosado then dribbled up the sideline and found Myers, who zipped to the center of the field. Myers dribbled around two defenders and then flipped a shot on goal that beat Post's keeper to give Southern a 3-0 lead.

Moments later, Tuva Thulin handled the ball on the sideline before finding Victoria Vera. Vera dribbled between two defenders and hammered a pass to Angela Filosa who turned and handed the ball to Reeves at the top of the box. Reeves turned away from her defender and sent a shot drifting over the out-stretched hand of the Eagles' goalkeeper to make it 4-0.

Coming out of the half, the Owls continued pressuring the goal. With Rosado meeting the Post goalkeeper after she came out of the goal to clear the ball, Driscoll picked off a clearing pass, took a dribble and then blasted a shot into the back of the goal. Minutes later, Driscoll had control of the ball again, streaked down the sideline and centered a pass that a Post defender misplayed and headed into her own goal to give the Owls a 6-0 lead just two minutes into the second half.

With less than eight minutes to play, Post got on the board when Alyssa Hebb took a pass from Jordyn Calas to convert and cut Southern's lead to 6-1.

Southern is back in action when it travels to Colchester, Vt. to take on Saint Michael's College in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 2 p.m.
