SCSU Men's Cross Country Sweeps NE10 Postseason Awards

Southern Connecticut Men's Cross Country swept the Northeast 10 Conference postseason awards, as announced by the conference on Thursday, November 13th. Jonathan Volpe was named Runner of the Year, Colton Sallum was named Rookie of the Year, and John Wallin was named Coach of the Year.

Volpe adds his first Runner of the Year award to his decorated career with the Owls. After being named NE10 Runner of the Week twice during the regular season, he won the NE10 Individual Championship, becoming the first Owl to win the race more than once after his victory in 2022. He then won the NCAA East Region Championship, becoming the first runner in program history to do so. Those two wins helped Southern to their fourth consecutive NE10 and East Region Championships, also clinching a berth in the NCAA National Championships for the fourth straight year. Volpe's award marks the first time in program history the Owls have won back-to-back Runners of the Year after Owen Gagne's win in 2024. He is the third runner overall to win the award (Chris Croff, 2006).

Sallum continued his impressive debut season with a Rookie of the Year nod after winning Rookie of the Week each week he competed this season. He finished second behind Volpe at the NE10 Championships, then placed third at the NCAA East Regional Championships, earning All-Conference and All-Region honors at both. He is the fourth straight Owl to win Rookie of the Year, joining teammates John Glidden and Sean Barkasy. Coincidentally, Sallum, Glidden, and Barkasy finished in that order at the conference championships.

Head Coach John Wallin won his fourth straight Coach of the Year, in line with Southern's four straight NE10 Titles. It is Wallin's fifth time receiving the award overall. He is the only coach in program history to win the award.

The Owls will look to close out the season on a high note when they compete at the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country National Champioships in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 22nd.
