SCSU Women's Basketball Opens 2025-26 Season With 104-59 Win Against Georgian Court

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball opened the 2025-26 season with a 104-59 win against Georgian Court at the Owls Tip-Off Classic at James Moore Field House.

Rheyna Steinauer poured in a career-best 30 points while also grabbing 11 rebounds for her sixth career double-double. Taeya Steinauer, Rheyna's sister and a transfer from Purdue Fort Wayne, had 19 points, seven rebounds and a team-best four steals in her Owls debut. Jada Williams, who transferred from Eastern Michigan, had 14 points and nine rebounds in her first game as an Owl.



Arianna Gerkin, who missed most of her freshman season in 2024-25, scored 13 points and grabbed four boards in 10 minutes off the bench. Hope Fox once-again filled the stat sheet with six points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals and Jill Martin had nine points and a team-high eight assists and four steals.

Southern led from the start as they scored the first 10 points of the game en route to leading the first quarter, 29-17. The Owls outscored GCU in each quarter, including a 24-16 advantage in the second to take a 53-32 lead into halftime. It was more of the same in the second half, including a 32-16 lead in the fourth.

Southern will return to action with the second game of their Tip-Off Classic when it meets Mercy on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 3:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House. Georgian Court and Bentley will face each other at 1:30 p.m.
