SCSU Men's Basketball Falls To Adelphi In Home Opener

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's basketball lost to Adelphi, 93-72, in a non-conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the loss, Southern dropped to 0-3 overall while Adelphi improved to 3-0.

Christian McClease had a season-best 14 points after converting on 2-of-3 from long range. Kazell Stewart finished with 12 rebounds after hitting on 5-of-6 from the floor including 2-of-3 from three-point range. Justice Ellison had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists while Cherif Diarra had five points, seven rebounds and five assists.



The first ten minutes of play saw the game remain within possession for both teams as the two NE10 foes pulled up to a 16-16 tie with just under 10 to play in the half. Adelphi got hot over the rest of the half, outscoring the Owls, 26-14. The Panthers converted on 9-of-14 from the floor including 4-of-6 from three-point range as they pushed their lead to 42-27 at the half.

Adelphi kept the foot on the gas in the second half, pulling ahead to its largest lead of the half, 75-51, with 7:39 to go. McClease and Stewart provided the Owls some spark down the stretch but they couldn't hold off the defending NE10 Champs. 

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 when it heads to Springfield, Mass. to take on American International at 7:30 p.m.
