Women's Track & Field

Mansfield, Smith Win Track and Field Athletes of the Week for Second Consecutive Week

Southern Connecticut women's indoor track & field standouts Patrice Mansfield and Belle Smith were named the Northeast 10 Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the second straight week. They are the only two athletes to win either award this season.

Mansfield continued her impressive start to the season with another PR, winning the 55m Hurdles at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge with a time of 8.01. That time not only broke the meet record, but set a new program record in the event, beating the previous best time of 8.06 set by Leticia Taylor in 2009. Mansfield has now won the award five times over the past two seasons.

Smith also stayed hot, winning both the Weight Throw and Shot Put at the Art Kadish Elm City Challenge. She set a new personal best in the Weight Throw with a mark of 16.72m, and broke the meet record in the Shot Put at 13.70m. This week also marks Smith's fifth time being named Field Athlete of the Week.

Mansfield, Smith, and the Owls will compete again in 2026 on January 23rd and 24th at the Dr. Sander Scorcher and the William Sutherland III Invitational.
