Women's Track & Field

Kayla Johnson, Patrice Mansfield Tabbed with NE10 Weekly Honors

Southern Connecticut women's indoor track & field standouts Kayla Johnson and Patrice Mansfield both received Northeast 10 Weekly Awards, as announced by the conference on Tuesday, April 7th. Johnson was named NE10 Field Athlete of the Week, and Mansfield was named Track Athlete of the Week.

Mansfield picked up right where she left off after a dominant indoor season, placing fifth in the 100m Hurdles at the UConn Dog Fight with a personal-best time of 13.95. That time is the second-fastest in program history behind Brianna Burt's record of 13.74 from 2018. Burt and Mansfield are the only athletes in program history to break the 14-second barrier. Mansfield's time also ranks first in the NE10 and 14th in all of Division II, meeting the NCAA provisional standard. This is the third time she has won the award this season.

Johnson continues her breakout season with the first weekly award win of her career. After taking home silver in the Shot Put at the NE10 Indoor Championships, she recorded a personal-best mark of 13.11m in the first outdoor meet of the season. That throw ranks first in the NE10 this season, and is the first time Johnson has surpassed 13 meters.

Mansfield, Johnson, and the Owls are back in action this weekend, traveling to the Providence Friar Invitational and hosting the Wilton Wright Invitational.
