SCSU Men's Basketball Defeats Molloy, 78-60

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut men's basketball defeated Molloy, 78-60, recording their second straight victory. The Owls improve to 4-4 on the season.

Justice Ellison double-doubled for the second straight game, recording 19 points and 10 rebounds. Cherif Diarra (14 points, 14 rebounds) and Simon Percy (12 points, 11 rebounds) both added double-doubles of their own, and Makai Coleman added 11 points off the bench, knocking down three from deep. Ellison, Diarra, and Christian McClease all recorded multiple steals, with the Owls forcing 10 turnovers overall.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able gain a double-digit lead until there were under two minutes left. Justice Ellison helped start the scoring for the Owls, putting home four of the team's first eight points. Molloy hung around though, with the two teams exchanging leads frequently. Makai Coleman was impactful off the bench, knocking down three three-pointers in a game that saw both teams struggle from deep. After jumping ahead 34-32 with just over four mintues to go, the Owls began to pull away, with Coleman, Ellison, Jahlil Bethea, and Cherif Diarra leading a 11-0 run that would ultimately give the Owls a ten-point advantage heading into halftime.

Southern kept their foot on the gas to kick off the second, maintaining their double-digit lead. A 17-6 run over the first nine minutes extended the lead, with Simon Percy making a major impact off the bench, including multiple thunderous dunks. The Owls stout defense held the Lions in check, and the lead never dipped, eventually growing to as large as 26 thanks to more baskets from Percy, Ellison, and Diarra. The Owls would ultimately pick up the victory, winning 78-60.

The Owls will return to action in 2026, when they travel to Mercy for an out of conference matchup on January 2nd.
