WALTHAM, Mass. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball fell to Bentley, 75-62 in an NE10 matchup on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons improved to an overall record of 7-2 and an NE10 record of 3-0 while the Owls dropped to an overall record of 6-4 and an NE10 record of 1-1.
Taeya Steinauer had a team-best of 18 points, was 6-for-8 from the floor, 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, grabbed four boards and had a team-best of three steals.
Tish Blackwood and
Rheyna Steinauer both had 13 points, as Blackwood grabbed a team-best of five boards and had a team-best of three assists.
Rheyna Steinauer was 2-for-4 from beyond the arc and grabbed four boards.
Ally Sentance had seven points and was 2-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Hope Fox had six points and five rebounds against the Falcons.
In the first quarter,
Tish Blackwood started off with a made layup to put the Owls up, 2-0. The Falcons responded quickly and tied the game at 2-2. The intense, back-and-forth pace would continue for the rest of the game.
Taeya Steinauer was huge for the Owls as she recorded a team-best of 10 points, as she was 3-for-4 from the floor, 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, to keep Southern within the close lead of Bentley.
Rheyna Steinauer and
Jillian Martin added three-pointers for the Owls; but the Falcons held on to a two-point lead of 22-20, heading into the second quarter.
In the second quarter,
Rheyna Steinauer was the difference as she recorded eight total points, and hit a turnaround jumper, to tie the game at 22-22. Then she made a three-pointer to take the lead, 25-22 and after that,
Tish Blackwood made a good jumper, to extend their lead to 27-22, pushing the Owls to a 7-0 run.
Bentley responded with back-to-back points, to tie the game up at 28-28, right before Blackwood would hit another jumper to put the Owls up by two again. Both the Owls' and Falcons' defenses came up big against one another; nevertheless, Bentley caught up to the Owls' lead with a minute left, to tie the game at 34-34.
Rheyna Steinauer would make two free-throws, to go up, 36-34, heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Falcons opened the second half with five made points, as
Rheyna Steinauer made a driving layup, in between.
Tish Blackwood made a layup to take the lead again, 40-39. Bentley would answer with multiple three pointers, to take an eight-point lead, with six minutes left.

Tish Blackwood and
Taeya Steinauer all recorded points for the Owls, but the Falcons continued with their building momentum to take a 61-48 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Blackwood made a driving layup to start the Owls' comeback; however, the Falcons' responded with another three-pointer.
Taeya Steinauer and
Hope Fox added points on the board for Southern Connecticut, but Bentley never lost the lead and finished with an 75-62 victory.
The Owls will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 7 in an NE10 matchup in Pleasantville, N.Y. at 5:30 pm against Pace. On Saturday, Jan. 10, Southern Connecticut will return home to the James Moore Field House in an NE10 matchup against Southern New Hampshire at 1:30 pm.
