Cherif Diarra, Justice Ellison Named to NE10 Faces in the Crowd

Southern Connecticut men's basketball standouts Cherif Diarra and Justice Ellison were named to the Northeast 10 Conference's Faces in the Crowd after helping the Owls to a 2-0 week. It is the first Faces in the Crowd recognition for SCSU men's basketball this season. 

Justice Ellison continues to impress in his first season with the Owls after transferring from American International. This week, he scored a team-high 22 points in a win over Mercy, also recording three steals and a block, before adding 17 points (15 in the second half) in the Owls' comeback victory over Bentley, who were ranked first in the NE10's preseason coaches' poll. He grabbed 10 rebounds in each of the games, notching his third- and fourth-straight double-doubles. Ellison has scored in double-figures in every game this season, and currently ranks third in the conference at 18.1 points per game. 

Cherif Diarra has recorded three consecutive double-doubles. Against Mercy, he grabbed scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds, also recording four assists and three blocks. He followed up that performance with 12 points and 12 rebounds against Bentley, also adding three assists. Diarra now holds the top individual rebounding performance in the NE10 this season and ranks second in rebounds per game with 9.8. The Owls have won their last four games and are undefeated in conference play. 

Ellison, Diarra, and the Owls travel to take on Pace on Wednesday, January 7th at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to take on Southern New Hampshire this Saturday, January 10th.
