SCSU Men's Basketball Falls To Pace, 56-47

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut men's basketball lost a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at Pace, 56-47, in Pleasantville, N.Y. With the loss, Southern dropped to 6-5 overall while taking its first conference loss to fall to 2-1. Pace improved to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the NE10.

Jahlil Bethea led the Owls with 12 points while Simon Percy totaled nine points and five rebounds. Malik Banks and Justice Ellison both had nine points each while Cherif Diarra totaled four points and seven rebounds.



The Owls came into the game knowing they were in for a defensive battle as the Setters led the NE10 in fewest points allowed per game. The Owls, averaging just over 32 points in the first half this season, were held to 23 points on 5-of-19 shooting. The Owls kept it a four-point game at the break, 27-23, thanks to a 10-for-13 showing at the free throw line. Simon Percy led the Owls with seven points at the break. The Owls also held Pace to 8-of-23 shooting from the floor in the first half of play.

In the second half, Pace opened up a 12-point lead, 42-30, with 12:36 to play. The Owls clamped down and held Pace scoreless over a five-minute stretch as they used a a 7-0 run to cut the Setters' lead to five points, 42-37, with 8:21 to play. Pace then outscored the Owls, 14-7, to take a 56-41 lead with 2:26 to play. Bethea added five points in the closing minutes to cut the Setters lead to 56-47.

Southern returns home on Saturday, Jan. 10 to host Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup at 3:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House.
