SCSU Women's Soccer Falls To Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Southern Connecticut State University women's soccer held Saint Anselm scoreless in the first half, but three second-half goals lifted the Hawks past the Owls, 3-0, at Melucci Field.

The loss drops Southern Connecticut in Northeast 10 play after a defensive opening 45 minutes in which the Owls limited Saint Anselm to five shots on goal and got five saves from senior goalkeeper Makenzi Pastreck.

Southern Connecticut generated chances early and went toe-to-toe with the Hawks in the first half. Ryleigh Phillips forced a save in the fifth minute and Bella LaPerle tested Saint Anselm again in the 17th minute, but the Hawks keeper kept it 0-0 at halftime. Saint Anselm outshot SCSU 10-3 before the break but could not break through.

The game turned just after halftime. In the 51st minute, Saint Anselm earned a penalty kick and converted to make it 1-0 Hawks. Saint Anselm doubled the lead at 58:49.

The Owls responded with their best stretch of pressure in the second half. Frida Norret had a look in the 57th minute that went just over the bar, and Southern Connecticut put four of its seven second-half shots on target. Mia Radzik came off the bench to add energy, while Olivia Morrissette, Elizabeth Bishop and Norret all forced saves from Saint A's during a 10-minute span that kept SCSU in the match.

Pastreck kept the Owls within reach with four more saves in the second half, finishing with eight saves on 11 shots on goal faced. She made several difficult stops on Deneen, who led all players with six shots and four on frame.

Saint Anselm sealed the result at 81:12 for the 3-0 final, capping a period where the Hawks held a 15-7 shot advantage.

Southern returns to action for its final home game of the regular season when it hosts Adelphi on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
