SCSU Field Hockey Tops St. Michael's, 5-2, For Kelley Frassinelli's 200th Career Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Ruby Webb had a goal and three assists and Southern Connecticut State University celebrated head coach Kelley Frassinelli's 200th career win with a 5-2 Northeast 10 Conference victory against Saint Michael's.

Southern Connecticut (7-8, 3-3 NE10) built a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and held off a second-half push from Saint Michael's (3-10, 1-5 NE10) to secure the conference victory before an announced crowd of 105 in New Haven.

Webb finished with four points on one goal and three assists. Lindsey Onofrio had a goal and an assist, Avery Vaccaro a goal and an assist while Kate Salvador and Keana Criscuolo each scored once and Kaiya Mercier added an assist.

Rachel Miller made eight saves in 60 minutes for Southern Connecticut, including five saves in the second quarter when Saint Michael's put seven shots on goal.
Webb opened the scoring at 3:17 of the first quarter with her fifth goal of the season to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The senior midfielder made it a multi-point day less than five minutes later off a corner set, teaming with Avery Vaccaro to set up Kate Salvador at 8:02 for a 2-0 advantage.

Southern kept the pressure on. Webb recorded her second assist of the afternoon at 14:33 when she found Lindsey Onofrio for Onofrio's third goal of the season and a 3-0 lead after one.

Saint Michael's answered early in the third. After generating 13 penalty corners in the game to Southern's six, the Purple Knights broke through at 40:01 to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Owls responded in the fourth. Keana Criscuolo, the team's leading scorer, scored her 14th goal of the season at the 50-minute mark off a feed from Kaiya Mercier to restore the three-goal cushion at 4-1.

Saint Michael's made it 4-2 with 4:18 remaining but Southern closed the scoring at 57:25 on a penalty-corner sequence. Webb and Onofrio assisted on Vaccaro's goal, Vaccaro's first of the season, to make it 5-2.

For Frassinelli, the victory marked career win No. 200. She is the program's all-time winningest coach and has guided Southern to six NE10 tournament appearances and more than a decade of top-four conference finishes.

The win moves Southern back to .500 in conference play at 3-3 and keeps the Owls in the middle of a tight NE10 playoff race with three regular-season games remaining.

Southern Connecticut is back in action when it travels to Franklin Pierce on Saturday, Oct. 24 and then to Adelphi on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The Owls play their final regular season home game on Sunday, Nov. 1 against Southern New Hampshire at 1 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
