SCSU Field Hockey Falls To SNHU, 1-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Southern Connecticut State held Southern New Hampshire to a single goal for 40 minutes, but could not find an equalizer in a 1-0 Northeast 10 loss at Jess Dow Field.

Lyndsay Troisi made eight saves on 10 shots on goal and received help from defender Sofia Frassinelli, who recorded a defensive save at 6:42 of the first quarter on a Bilodeau attempt that had gotten past Troisi. Despite the pressure — SNHU outshot SCSU 14-3 and put 10 shots on frame — the Owls (7-10, 3-5) limited the damage to one.

Southern Connecticut generated three shots on goal, all saved by SNHU goalkeeper Agustina Miranda Waigand, who posted a three-save shutout in 60 minutes.

The Owls' best chances came off penalty corners. SCSU earned four corners to SNHU's three, including two in the second half. Lindsey Onofrio tested Waigand at 8:31 following a corner from Ruby Webb, and Isabella Sharp-Senior forced another save at 37:01. Kaiya Mercier's shot with 8:19 left in regulation, moments after SNHU's Olivia Andersen was issued a green card at 51:26, was also turned away.

SCSU's defense settled in after a busy first half. After facing 10 shots in the first 30 minutes, the Owls allowed only four shots over the final two quarters. Troisi made stops on at 32:11 and 46:38 to keep the deficit at one.

Southern Connecticut will look to rebound in its regular-season finale when it takes on Assumption on Saturday, Nov. 7 in Worcester, Mass.
