SCSU Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award

Southern Connecticut State University volleyball was announced as recipients of the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, which is awarded to volleyball programs at all levels that maintain a 3.30-or-higher grade point average. The Owls combined for a team GPA of 3.45.

The Owls received the AVCA Team Academic Award for the second-straight year and the 10th time since 2009-10. Of the 279 NCAA Division II programs, Southern is one of 107 that have received the word 10 times since the AVCA began awarded the honor in 1992-93. Among NE10 programs, Southern ranks behind Adelphi (22) and Bentley (19), all-time.

Owls senior Sydney Bennett currently boasts a 4.00 GPA while pursuing her master's degree in Public Health and earned NE10 Second Team, D2CCA All-East Region as well as the NE10 Academic All-Conference and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams. Bennett and Emily Sartell also received the 2026 NE10 Presidents' Award for Sports Excellence as a graduating senior that attained Magna Cum Laude honors. In addition, 11 of the Owls 20 student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.50-or-higher while 19 of the 20 owned a 3.00-or-higher.
