SCSU Men's Cross Country Sweeps NE10 Weekly Honors

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Southern Connecticut State University men's cross country swept the Northeast 10 Conference weekly honors, as freshman Hayden Burke was named NE10 Rookie of the Week and sophomore Colton Sallum was named NE10 Runner of the Week, as announced by the NE10 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026.

The Owls opened the 2026 season at the University of Hartford Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 12, finishing second in the 11-team field with 38 points, just three points behind first-place UConn.

Sallum led the way for Southern, placing third overall in the men's 5K with a time of 16:04.2. The sophomore was the top finisher behind a pair of UConn runners and helped the Owls to their second-place team finish.

Burke made an immediate impact in his collegiate debut, crossing the finish line eighth overall in 16:20.0. The freshman was the third scorer for Southern and helped the Owls place three freshmen among their top five finishers.

Burke's 16:20.0 also matches the current college-best 5K time listed for him, while Sallum enters his sophomore season after an impressive freshman campaign.

The weekly honors mark the first NE10 awards of the season for both Owls and give Southern its first conference Rookie of the Week and Runner of the Week selections of 2026.

Southern Connecticut returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 19 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
