Brain Hayden ’05 joined the Owls as an assistant coach for the 2021 season. Hayden played two seasons with the Owls and was a member of the 2005 squad that was the first in program history to make the NCAA College World Series.
Hayden returns to Southern Connecticut after serving as the head coach at Guilford (Conn.) High School for the previous eight years. Prior to his stint as Guilford’s head varsity coach, he served for two years as the head junior varsity coach and varsity assistant. In 2017, Hayden was named the Southern Connecticut Conference Diamond Club Coach of the Year.
While at Guilford, Hayden compiled 92 wins and eight State Tournament victories, reaching the tournament in seven of the eight years he was Guilford’s head coach. In 2018, he guided Guilford to the State semifinals. During his time at Guilford, Hayden’s teams featured four All-State players, 24 All-Conference selections and also helped 15 student-athletes play at the collegiate level.
Hayden graduated from Southern Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in community recreation. Hayden is a native of West Haven, Conn., and played at West Haven (Conn.) High School.
