Ed Bethke

Former Owl Eddie Bethke is in his 11th season as an assistant coach with the Owls in the 2024-2025 academic year and helped guide the Owls to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2017 and 2022. 

Since joining the Owls' staff, he has mentored 13 freshman pitchers to the NE10 All-Rookie team. He has also coached seven hurlers to be All-Conference performers. 3 pitchers have been named to the All Region Team by various outlets as well. In addition, In 2019, Brandon White was named the NE10 Rookie Pitcher of the Year and the ECAC Rookie of the Year. 

A two-time All-Conference performer, Bethke was a mainstay on the mound for the Owls from 2007-10. He served as a team captain as a senior on the only Owls team to ever host a regional to date, and led the Owls in wins, innings pitched, ERA and complete games as a freshman and junior. He concluded his career ranked 3rd in Owls' history in innings pitched  (281.1) and #10 in career wins (20).

Before joining the SCSU staff, Bethke spent three seasons as the head varsity baseball coach at his scholastic alma mater, Branford (Conn.) High School. Bethke holds the all time wins record at Branford with 22. 

Bethke holds a bachelor's degree in recreation and leisure and a master's degree in Sport and Entertainment Management from SCSU.

Ed is married to his wife Shealah (SCSU 2010) with their two kids, Emmett and Adeline and dog Oakley.Â
