NEW HAVEN, Conn. – #Kristen Frost# (Madison, Conn.) of the women’s swimming and diving team and #Benjamin Prue# (Alpharetta, Ga.) of the men’s swimming and diving team have been named as Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Month for March.

Frost continued to build her résumé as she won four national championships in as many days in the month of March and set three NCAA Division II records at the championships. Of the three records she broke, one was her own – in the 1,000 yard freestyle – as she finished at 9:50.49 and shattered her original record by over three seconds.

In addition to setting the NCAA Division II record in the 1,000 yard freestyle, Frost also won the 200-yard freestyle the next day and then went on to break two more national records on March 14 and 15. On March 14, Frost beat the 500-yard freestyle record by less than two seconds with a time of 4:45.69. The following day, she crushed an 11-year-old national record in the 1650-yard freestyle by nearly 11 seconds, with a time of 16:17.66.

For her efforts, Frost was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer at the NCAA Championships, and also went on to earn Northeast-10 Swimming Athlete of the Week honors.

Finally, the sophomore was nominated for the Division II Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year, as part of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards presented by Honda and was named the Doc McInerney Female Athlete of the Year, as selected by the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance (CSWA).

Prue closed his first season with the Owls in fine fashion, as he took home All-America honors in two events at the 2008 NCAA Championships. He finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:49.45 and also placed 10th in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.55.

Earlier in the month, he won the 200-yard backstroke on February 24 with a time of 1:49.3 at the Metropolitan Championships at Rutgers Aquatic Center. Thanks in part to Prue’s efforts, the Owls finished second overall at that competition, finishing only behind The College of New Jersey.

In addition to winning the 200-yard backstroke, Prue was also part of the 400 medley relay team that finished second in the event with a time of 3:28.58.
