NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Morgan Carman (Mesa, Ariz.) of the volleyball team and junior John Moscatel (Lexington, Mass.) of the football team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Carman excelled in the libero role for the Owls during a 2-1 week with a combined 72 digs through three matches. She trounced her previous season best of 19 digs against Georgian Court back on Sept. 9 with 28 digs gainst Molloy followed by a 29 dig performance against Nyack on Sept. 7.
Moscatel finished with a career-high 86 yards rushing on 21 carries along with two scores in a 30-20 loss to No. 10 nationally ranked Indiana, Pa. on Saturday. He also had 48 yards on kickoff returns and 18 yards receiving to total 152 all-purpose yards for the contest.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Month’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Month’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each month for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
