NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Rocco Cundari (Norwalk, Conn.) of the baseball team and senior Kaley Marden (Fremont, Calif.) of the softball team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Cundari tossed 11 scoreless innings in a 5-0 week for the Owls, recording one win and one save. He tossed nine innings in a 1-0 win over New Haven with seven strikeouts on Wednesday. Cundari followed that up with two scoreless innings to earn the save against St. Michael’s on Saturday. Cundari is currently ranked third in the Northeast-10 Conference leaders for ERA with a 0.87 mark.
Marden posted a .479 batting average (9-for-19) with eight runs batted in a 2-4 week for the Owls. Marden added an .895 slugging percentage and a.524 on-base percentage.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
