NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Sophomore Kieran DeBiase (Prospect, Conn.) of the women’s soccer team and senior Brian Wilcox (Jericho, Vt.) of the football team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
DeBiase helped the Owls win their 10th game of the year last Friday by registering the game-winning goal in double overtime in a 1-0 victory over Bentley.
Wilcox recorded a pair of interceptions, including one that he returned for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, to help the Owls defeat Stonehill, 17-14, on Saturday. He became the first Owl since 2012 to return an interception for a touchdown and first to record two interceptions in the same game since September, 2013.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
