NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Caylee Richardson (Oxford, Conn.) of the women's cross country team and sophomore Chae Brangman (St. George's, Bermuda) of the men's soccer team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Richardson was the Owls' top finisher at the New England Championship this weekend with a time of 19:18.7. Thanks in part to her performance, the Owls placed 37th as a team at the all-division event.
Brangman was instrumental in the Owls' 2-1 win at No. 15 nationally ranked Merrimack on Saturday, as he scored both SCSU goals in the match. The game-winner came on a penalty kick in the 74th minute. Southern extended its unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1) with the win over the Warriors.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
