NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Katherine Crochet (Waterbury, Conn.) of the women's swimming and diving team and senior Raymond Cswerko (Torrington, Conn.) of the men's swimming and diving team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Crochet was named the Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships this weekend and helped the Owls to a runner-up finish. She claimed six total NE-10 titles - first place individual finishes in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle, all three of which were times that met the NCAA "B" cut. Crochet also set new NE-10 records in the 50 and 100 freestyle. In addition, she swam legs of the winning 400 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay and 200 freestyle relay, of which the 400 freestyle relay was also a NCAA "B" cut time. Crochet also took part in the third place 800 freestyle relay which also registered a NCAA "B" cut mark.

For the third time in his career, Cswerko captured Most Outstanding Swimmer laurels at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships as SCSU won its sixth straight crown and 14th in 15 years. He won three individual events - the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 backstroke - and set a new NE-10 record in the 200 IM. Cswerko also was a part of the winning 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay winners, of which the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relays registered new NE-10 records. Cswerko notched NCAA "B" cut marks in all seven events that he participated in.

The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
