NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Shatajah Wattely (Uncasville, Conn.) of the women’s indoor track and field team and senior Michael Lee (New London, Conn.) of the men’s indoor track team have been named as the Connecticut Army National Guard/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Wattely collected All-America honors in two events at the NCAA Championships this weekend. She placed seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 24.39 seconds and also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay that placed fourth. That quartet crossed the line in a time of 3:43.93.
Lee set a new Southern Connecticut record in the triple jump and finished third overall to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. He delivered a jump of 52 feet, 0.75 inches in the event. He now holds school records in both the long jump and triple jump.
The Connecticut Army National Guard is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
