Southern Connecticut State University Athletics

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Natasha Fitzpatrick (West Moonah, Australia) of the women’s cross country team and senior Corey Chaffee (Danbury, Conn.) of the football team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Fitzpatrick punched her ticket to the NCAA Division II Championships in Florida on Nov. 19 with a fifth place showing at the NCAA Regionals over the weekend. She was fifth overall with a time of 21:45.4 to earn All-Region honors for the second consecutive year. Thanks in part to Fitzpatrick, the Owls finished ninth as a team at the NCAA Regionals.

Chaffee helped to seal Southern’s 28-25 victory over St. Anselm on Saturday with a pivotal interception in the closing minutes. The visitors were in Owls’ territory driving for the game-winning score with just over two minutes to go when he stepped in front of a pass and returned it into the Hawks’ red zone. Southern’s offense then ran out the clock from there. Chaffee also had five tackles in the win.
