NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Junior Alexandra Avendano (Burlington, Mass.) of the gymnastics team and senior Michael Mallory (Waterbury, Conn.) of the men's basketball team have been named as the Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Avendano ended up with three top-eight finishes on the afternoon as the Owls finished second against Brown, Rhode island College and URI on Sunday. She scored a 9.7 on the vault and a 9.8 on the floor to finish as the runner-up in both of those events, and also placed eighth on the beam with a 9.575.
Mallory averaged 22.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game last week. He posted game-high scoring efforts in both of the Owls' contests with 25 points in a win over AIC and 20 points against St. Rose.
