NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Destiney Coward (East Haven, Conn.) of the women's outdoor track and field team and freshman Nate Carney (Bristol, Conn.) of the baseball team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.

Coward kicked off the outdoor season with a personal-best throw of 58.60 meters in the hammer throw at the Mark Young Invitational at Yale over the weekend. That mark was good enough for a first place finish and also currently ranked No. 5 in Division II overall.

Carney pitched a complete-game shutout on Sunday in helping the Owls notch a doubleheader sweep of Saint Rose. He tossed a four-hitter and struck out seven as the Owls went on to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
