NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Destiney Coward (East Haven, Conn.) of the women’s outdoor track and field team and redshirt senior Cole Bryant (Newington, Conn.) of the baseball team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Coward placed second overall in the hammer throw at the University of South Carolina Open over the weekend. Her throw of 59.83 meters was good for a NCAA automatic qualifying mark and was just shy of her own school record in that event.
Bryant continued his stellar 2017 campaign with a complete game (seven inning) shutout, a 2-0 triumph over LIU-Post on Sunday. He improved to 7-0 on the season with the victory and fanned eight in the contest.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University’s ‘Athlete of the Week’ recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the ‘Athlete of the Week’ program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
