NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Leanna Jadus (Long Beach, Calif.) of the volleyball team and junior Joey Wallace (Rochester, N.Y.) of the men's basketball team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Jadus, the 2017 NE10 Player of the Year, helped power the Owls to their first-ever berth in the NE10 Tournament final. She was named to the All-Tournament Team after registering double-doubles in all three games and combined for 56 kills and 43 digs in the three matches. She had 12 kills and 13 digs in the opening round win over No. 2 AIC and followed with 22 kills and 12 digs in the semifinal win over No. 6 St. Anselm. Jadus matched her career-high for the second night in a row with 22 kills and also contributed 18 digs in the NE10 final against No. 1 New Haven.
Wallace averaged 15.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game last week for the Owls. He had 10 points and six rebounds in the season opener against Saint Rose and followed that up with a career-high 21 points and six rebounds against LeMoyne.
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
