NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Briana Burt (Meriden, Conn.) of the women’s outdoor track and field team and junior Ruvens Exantus (Stratford, Conn.) of the men’s outdoor track and field team have been named as the Chick-fil-A of North Haven/Southern Connecticut State University Athletes of the Week.
Burt set a new school record in the 100 hurdles over the weekend in her outdoor season debut at the Miami Hurricane Invitational. Her time of 13.78 was a NCAA provisional qualifying mark and good for seventh overall. Burt broke her own mark of 14.00 that she shared with Letecia Taylor in that event. In addition, Burt also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay that finished third overall at the competition.
Exantus also kicked off his outdoor season at the Hurricane Invitational and posted a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 400 hurdles. His time of 52.82 was good for second overall. Exantus also placed third with the 4x400 relay and seventh in the 110 hurdles (14.81).
Chick-fil-A of North Haven, located at 560 Universal Drive, is serving as the title sponsor of Southern Connecticut State University's 'Athlete of the Week' recognition program. Initiated in September, 2007, the 'Athlete of the Week' program recognizes one female and one male student-athlete each week for demonstrated excellence on the playing field.
