Larry Yeboah Pushes Men’s Soccer Past AIC

Senior tallies three points

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior forward Larry Yeboah (Worcester, Mass.) notched a goal and an assist in the second half to lead the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over American International in Northeast-10 Conference action at AIC Park on Tuesday night. Senior Brendan Lawless (Orleans, Mass.) picked up the shutout in net for the Owls. With the victory, SCSU moves their record up to 7-2-3 (6-1-2 NE-10), while AIC falls to 1-8-3 (1-7-1 NE-10) with the defeat.

The two teams played a scoreless first half, though the Owls statistically dominated the opening 45 minutes. SCSU took a 7-3 shots advantage and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks into the halftime break.

Early in the second half, the Owls would get all the offense they needed with two goals in a span of 4:27. First, in the 53rd minute, Yeboah sent a pass which sprung senior forward Colin Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) on a breakaway which led to his fourth goal of the season and a 1-0 SCSU lead. Later, in the 58th minute, Yeboah struck for a tally of his own off a cross from junior midfielder Tom Mattera (Norwalk, Conn.). The goal was Yeboah's third of the season and created the final, 2-0 score.

SCSU held a 5-4 edge in shots in the second half to end the game with a 12-7 advantage.

Lawless made three saves in net to record his third clean sheet of the season for SCSU. Mathew Marcoux made six saves in front of the AIC cage in defeat.

The Owls return to action on Saturday, October 6 when they return home to face Assumption in a Northeast-10 Conference game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.
