NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer freshman Gísli Ágústsson was named to the All-Northeast-10 Conference Third Team and the NE10 All-Rookie Team, as announced by the Northest-10 Conference on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.

Ágústsson, a midfielder from Reykjavík, Iceland, led the Owls with five goals and 11 points in his first season at Southern Connecticut. He appeared in all 15 games, made 13 starts and logged 1,186 minutes, adding one assist and a team-high 29 shots. His five goals accounted for more than a quarter of the Owls' 18 goals this fall. The SCSU freshman led the team in goals and points in his first collegiate season.

Ágústsson joins a recent line of Owls to earn All-NE10 Third Team and All-Rookie Team honors in the same season, following Alex da Cunha (2021) and last season's duo of Jah Nyanforh and Diego Flores (2025). His selection also gives Southern Connecticut an NE10 All-Rookie Team honoree for the third consecutive season, following Solomon Aidoo and Kasper Murzinski in 2024 and Nyanforh and Flores in 2025.

His breakout stretch came in late September. Ágústsson scored in the fifth minute of a 1-0 win over Saint Anselm on Sept. 26, the game-winner in the Owls' first victory of the season, then found the net again three days later in a 2-0 shutout of St. Thomas Aquinas, a match in which he led SCSU with four shots, three on target.

He was named NE10 Rookie of the Week on Oct. 19 after accounting for both of Southern Connecticut's goals that week. Ágústsson converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute to earn a 1-1 draw with Molloy on Oct. 13, then gave the Owls a 1-0 lead over Assumption on Oct. 17 with his team-leading fifth goal of the season, a finish to the far post off a feed from Jimmy Choi.

Before arriving in New Haven, Ágústsson played for Leiknir Reykjavík, competing at Iceland's top youth level and making his first-team debut with the club. He is majoring in exercise and sport science.
