NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Tiffany Garry posted match highs with 33 assists and 12 aces en route to a triple-double to lead Bryant to a 3-0 victory over the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference play at Pelz Gymnasium on Friday night. Junior
Ashley Coombs (Trumbull, Conn.) handed out 10 assists for SCSU in the loss. With the defeat, the Owls fall to 10-22 (2-10 NE-10) while Bryant improves to 23-12 (12-0 NE-10) with the victory.
Bryant won the opening game 30-14 before taking the second and third games by identical 30-21 scores. The loss was the sixth in a row and the 12th in 13 matches for SCSU.
In addition to Coombs' 10 assists, the offense for the Owls was spread around, with three players registering four kills. Freshman
Robin Priest (Cheshire, Conn.) led the defensive effort with 10 digs. Sophomore
Tara Bregensir (Coal Township, Pa.) posted a match-best four blocks (one solo).
For Bryant, Garry added 10 digs to go with her 33 assists and 12 aces to complete her triple-double. Likica Grceva led the Bulldogs offense with a match-best 12 kills. Defensively, Maureen Atkins led Bryant with a match-high 14 digs while Garry chipped in two block assists.
The Owls return to the court on Saturday, Oct. 27, when they host Stonehill in a Northeast-10 Conference contest. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Pelz Gymnasium in New Haven, Conn.
