NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior
Colin Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) headed home the game-winning goal in the 76th minute off a cross from
Ancil Farrier (Los Bajos, Trinidad) as the Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament with a 1-0 win over St. Michael's on Sunday.
The Owls also extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games (9-0-2) with the win and are now 12-2-4 on the season. St. Michael's dropped to 10-5-4 with the loss.
SCSU will now take part in a semifinal round contest on Wednesday against an opponent TBA.
After a scoreless first half that saw six of the seven shots taken by the Owls, the hosts were finally able to break through in the second stanza. Farrier carried the ball along the left sideline and sent a perfectly placed ball into the box, where Jackson knocked it into the lower left corner of the cage.
The Owls nearly netted another marker a few minutes later, but
Tom Mattera's (Norwalk, Conn.) shot from in close was stopped by the St. Michael's keeper.
