SYRACUSE, N.Y – Keyed by a 26-point effort from senior Kate Lynch (Rumford, R.I.) and a career-high 19 points from classmate Michelle Martinik (Monroe, Conn.), the No. 11 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball team rolled to an 84-52 win over Le Moyne on Wednesday night in Syracuse.
The Owls are now 3-1, 2-1 in Northeast-10 play on the year.
It was a close affair early on, as the clubs were tied at 12-12 just over eight minutes into the contest. However, the Owls took control from there with a 13-2 run to make it 25-13. SCSU led by 15 at the break, 37-22.
The second half featured more of the same in terms of offensive success on the SCSU front. The Owls scored the first six points after halftime and never led by fewer than 17 points in the frame.
As a team, SCSU shot 55-percent from the floor (30-for-55), including a sparkling 11-for-20 showing from behind the three-point arc.
All 10 Owls that played in the game registered a point.
SCSU is back in action on Saturday at 12 p.m. for a home Northeast-10 contest against St. Michael's.
