WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior
Maria Arenas (Stratford, Conn.) recorded 21 digs over the course of two matches on Saturday afternoon, but the Southern Connecticut State University volleyball team was swept by both Northeast-10 foe Bentley and non-conference opponent Adelphi in tri-match action at Bentley's Dana Center. With the pair of losses, SCSU finishes their 2007 campaign with an 11-25 record.
With 11 wins on the 2007 season, SCSU has now improved in each of the four years

The loss to Bentley came via scores of 30-21, 30-7 and 30-22, respectively, in the three games. Later, the Owls were swept by Adelphi 30-16, 30-15 and 30-22.
In the match against Bentley, sophomore
Marcia Hollingsworth (Alexandria, Va.) and junior
Nekane Mendizabal (Stratford, Conn.) led the SCSU offense with six kills each. Sophomore
Manjit Chase (Alexandria, Va.) helped spark that offense by leading the team with 12 assists. Defensively, Hollingsworth posted a match-high four block assists while Mendizabal and Arenas each reached double digits in digs with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
For Bentley, Alaura Berry led the offense with 14 kills. She was joined in double figures by Christina Sadowski (13 kills) and Alex Kearney (10 kills). The trio worked primarily off the set of Tori Piskulick, who posted a match-best 47 assists. On the defensive side of the net, Cassie Kraft led the Falcons with 20 digs while Berry and Sadowski each partook in two blocks.
Against Adelphi, Mendizabal led the Owls offensively with seven kills. This time it was junior
Ashley Coombs (Trumbull, Conn.) who handed out the most helpers, as she garnered 11 assists. Arenas recorded 11 digs and was joined in double digits by freshman
Robin Priest (Cheshire, Conn.), who posted 10 digs of her own. Also on the defensive side of things, junior Alianna Lannigan (Seldom, N.Y.) led SCSU with five blocks (one solo).
For Adelphi, Brittany Addeo was the star of the show as she notched match highs in both assists (33) and digs (12) to post a double-double. Offensively, it was Kathleen Carney who utilized those assists the most, as she hammered out a match-best 10 kills. On the defensive side of the net, Lauren Flanagan led Adelphi with a match-high eight blocks (one solo).
