NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior forward
Colin Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) scored the lone goal of the match, and sophomore keeper
Joe Pilla (Watertown, Conn.) made six saves to lead the No. 6 nationally ranked Southern Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Post University on Friday night. The match was the final game of day one action at the 2007 Southern Connecticut State University Autumn Classic.
Both teams had chances in the opening segment of the match. The Owls had an opportunity off a corner kick, but couldn't finish the bid.
A short while later, Post had its best scoring chance, but Pilla denied Alex Brito on a 1-on-1 opportunity.
Jackson finally broke through with what turned out to be the only goal of the match. The marker came in the 36th minute when
Ancil Farrier (Los Bajos, Trinidad) sent the ball in from the left wing and Jackson knocked it home.
Pilla notched his first collegiate shutout for the Owls. Dan Nadel turned away three shots in the net for Post.
The Owls return to action on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. when they take on Bridgeport in day two action at the Southern Connecticut State University Autumn Classic.
